The day began with both the bride and groom preparing for the festivities, each surrounded by loved ones, creating an atmosphere of joy and anticipation.
One of the highlights of the day was the traditional Serbian ritual known as "kupovina neveste" or "otkup neveste," which translates to "buying the bride" or "redeeming the bride." In this lively custom, the groom arrives at the bride's home and must offer symbolic gifts or money to "purchase" his bride from her family. It’s a playful and joyous tradition filled with laughter, negotiating, and heartfelt moments, adding a unique cultural flair to the wedding day.
Once Marijana and Mitar were united, they made their way to Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Astoria, NY, in a vintage white Rolls Royce. The church, with its rich history and stunning architecture, provided the perfect setting for their heartfelt ceremony, surrounded by family and friends.
The celebrations continued at The Fox Hollow in Woodbury, NY, where the couple’s vision for a perfect reception came to life. The venue was adorned with beautiful floral centerpieces by James Anthony Floral, adding elegance and charm to the event. The reception was filled with energy and tradition, thanks to the lively entertainment provided by the Boris Batula band, a Serbian band that kept the dance floor packed all night long.
