Bianca and Joe’s Surprise Marriage Proposal in Dumbo, Brooklyn

When Joe approached me to help with planning his proposal during his trip to New York City I was thrilled to help him with putting everything together. He and Bianca were flying in from Michigan for less than 24 hours which meant this trip would be all about their engagement and we had to make it super special. First we determined the best possible location. I knew that Joe wanted to capture this moment in an area that just screamed NYC and I kept that top of mind before we ultimately agreed that doing the proposal in Dumbo Brooklyn will be a great choice.

From a photographer’s perspective my thought process when choosing a location is always to ask myself what area of NYC provides great scenery but is also not super crowded so as to minimize risk of other people getting into the shot during the few seconds the proposal happens. This is less of a concern with regular engagement sessions since we can set up certain shots whereas capturing the real and raw emotions and the reaction of your partner is not something that can be duplicated. After several suggestions we both agreed on doing the proposal in Dumbo, Brooklyn by the East River with the entire NYC skyline view in the background along with the Brooklyn Bridge. A classic choice!
